If you have boxes of Magic cards stacked in a closet, you have probably wondered what they are worth. The honest answer: less per card than most people hope, but more in total than most people expect, especially if you spend twenty minutes pulling the right cards first.
What counts as bulk?
Bulk is any card that is not worth selling on its own. That usually means commons, uncommons, basic lands, and rares or mythics that sell for well under a dollar. Buyers pay for bulk by the thousand or by the card, not by looking each one up.
Typical bulk Magic prices in 2026
Rates change and every buyer is different, but these are the ranges you will usually see:
- Commons and uncommons: about $2 to $5 per 1,000 cards
- Bulk rares and mythics: about 5 to 10 cents each
- Foil commons and uncommons: a few cents each
- Basic lands: often lower than commons, and some buyers do not take them
So a 5,000-card box of commons and uncommons is typically worth $10 to $25. One hundred bulk rares can be worth as much as two or three thousand commons.
Why bulk pays so little
A buyer has to sort, store and list every card, and most bulk commons sell for pennies, if they sell at all. The price you are offered reflects that labor. It is not a sign someone is lowballing you.
How to get more for your bulk
- Pull your rares and mythics. They are worth many times more than commons, so never leave them mixed in.
- Pull your foils. Even bulk foils pay better than non-foils.
- Check for hidden value. Some commons and uncommons sell for $2 to $9 each because they are popular in Commander. A quick scan with a phone app can pay for itself.
- Sort if you can. Sorted bulk saves the buyer time, and many buyers, including us, pay more for it.
- Sell bigger lots. Shipping is the same hassle for one box or five.
Do not forget shipping
One thousand Magic cards weigh about four pounds. If you are mailing your cards, shipping can take a real bite out of a small lot of pure commons. That is another reason to pull rares and foils first: they add value without adding weight. Also note that trading cards do not qualify for USPS Media Mail.
Where to sell bulk Magic cards
- Local game stores: fast and no shipping, but many only offer store credit and some do not take bulk at all.
- Facebook Marketplace or local groups: sometimes a higher price, but you deal with strangers and no-shows.
- Online bulk buyers: you see the rates first, ship with tracking, and get paid when the cards are checked in.
